Round 4 of the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup was held at the Autodromo Internacional Algarve Portimao Circuit, this event was
the starting point of the new Team Garnier Racing which had only been reassembled in the weeks leading up to the Portimao
round, a brand new BMW HP4 was purchased and collected 2 weeks before race weekend, loaded into the McFlash
Motorhome and driven to Alpha Racing in Germany for the transformation to Superstock race bike spec`s, Friday`s Free
Practice would be David McFadden`s first taste of the BMW, FP1, QP1 & FP2 were used to get a good race set-up and to get
as many laps under the belt to better understand the new bike`s behaviour on the technical Portimao circuit. Happy with the
bike QP2 would see the efforts of both David McFadden & crew chief Dave Freeman rewarded with a positive move up the
timesheets to a 10th place on the grid for Sunday`s race.
Race Day: The bike felt good in the morning 10 minute Warm Up session and I was ready for the race, a good start from the
outside of 4th row when the lights went out saw David move up to 7th place getting amongst the leaders a false neutral going
into Tower Bend on lap 4 caused the off track excursion that dropped David back down to 15th place, a solid determined ride
saw David move back up to 10th with a lap to go, passing 2 more riders on the final lap to finish his first race for Team Garnier
Racing in 8th place, which moves David McFadden up to 13th in the Championship and with six more races to go a top 10
finish is on the cards.
David McFadden: I feel at home on the BMW and in Team Garnier Racing, I`m very confident in the bike and feel it has a lot
of potential, together with Dave Freeman for the rest of the season we will continue to learn the bike and get even faster.
We have made a good start to our championship and look forward to our test session at Magne-Course next weekend to
continue to develop the team and race bike in preparation for our next race at Imola on 28-30 June. Big thanks to Fiduciaire
Euro Conseil Entreprise S.A, Team Garnier Racing, Spoor-Tech, Stunt SA, RST, WOA, Liquid Blast Energy Drink, Arai, Mackay
Plant Services, to all the South African spectators and supporters.
