Race report - Aran van Niekerk
Hello to all
It was another fantastic race day but not an easy one. With the championship being so close the pressure was on. Knowing that Ronald and his team at Race Base is a very strong team and coming so close to the end now they going to be stronger than ever. I was going to have to bring more than my A game to be even close to them.
That all important pole position was up for grabs when the green light went on for quail. We put our super sticky Pirelli tyres on and went for it FLAT out. The track was not in the best condition but ey it was the same for everyone. I managed to put in 2 flyers before we caught some of the slower guys and I pulled in. Mr Rapman put in a splendid lap and took yet another pole position! I wonder what his wife feeds him for breakFAST. The front row consited of 1st Rapson ZX10. 2nd Aran (StuntSA ZX10). 3rd Ronald (MHM ZX10) and Gerrit (competition bikes CBR 1000).
Haha what can I say? I had a terrible start and was all the way down in 4th into turn 1. Not really where I wanted to be for the race but ey when you get dealt a lemon cut it up and use it for your savannah. Knowing Ronald and his pace is blistering, I had to use every opportunity available to me to get near to him. Managing to pass Gerrit going into turn 4 and getting good drive down the back straight I had Mr Malcom lined up for turn 1 the next lap, just managing to get passed him was no easy task as Mr M is super late on the breaks. Finally taking in a couple corners to regain my courage and try a move on Ronald, I sat in his slip stream down the back straight and got him on the breaks into turn 5. Ronald is a fierce competitor and I know he was going to give it his all, I put my head down and hammered in some consistent laps to pull a slight lead. Final lap came up and not wanting to throw it all away I took it very gingerly to take the checkered flag for our 9th win of the season. The 600cc 3 way battle to the line was won by my brother Nick making it yet another VanBros Double!
What an amazing start and ride by Brandon Haupt. He made us 1000s look like we were sleeping on the start line, ok I was haha. Again in 4th place into turn 1 this race was going to be a cracker. Lucky for us 1000 oaks we passed the 600 down the back straight and managing to get Malcom into turn 5, coming close to Ronald along the main straight I was lucky to get passed him into turn 1. Trying again to make a break was an epic fail as Ronald has tremendous pace and passed me on the breaks into turn 1. Trying my hardest to take the lead was no easy task and three laps later I was lucky to pull a move into turn 1. Not to sure what happened there but my bike was on fire. Thank you to my team Danie Maritz Racing and Stunt SA for giving me a competitive Kawasaki ZX10. We put in two blinders and pulled a gap and managed to take another win for our 10th win of the season.
Big Thank you to everyone for all their help and support.
