Ethan Pentz grew up in Kalk Bay. Growing up beside the ocean and the love for the waves got Ethan hooked onto surfing and still can’t go a day without getting into the ocean. He started surfing 7 years ago and has been surfing Kalk Bay Reef since he was 12. With lots of help from locals and bone crushing wipe-outs, Ethan developed a solid foundation and an awesome ability to pull into back-hand barrels. This proved to his advantage when he won the 2012 Western Province u17 champs which were held at Kalk Bay Reef.
Ethan has achieved WP colours in short boarding and longboarding for several years, winning a few local contests and placing 4th in 2012 SA Champs u17 (short boarding) and he also won the boys division in the SA Longboarding Champs at New Pier, Durban in 2011. Ethan loves contest surfing but also really enjoys a trip up the east coast to J-Bay and East London with his dad (who also surfs). Ethan’s favourite waves up the coast are J-Bay and spots in East London are Glen Eden, Yellows and Queensbury.
In Ethan’s spare time he enjoys hanging around with his friends and girlfriend and also gives lessons through various surf schools in Muizenberg. Ethan is a friendly but a shy kind of guy but once you get to know him you would find yourself laughing constantly when he is around and to be a trustworthy friend.
